Every typeface has its own character. This also affects which extra features and stylistic alternatives we include. Still, every EK font comes with a standardized set of punctuation, symbols, and language-specific glyphs. This baseline stays consistent across all expansion levels—Pilot, Full-Latin, and Vietnamese. Our curated character sets combine industry standards with additional glyph groups that are personally important to us.

Pilots are our smallest character set, with 217 characters. They are the default format for all new releases at first. Pilots are not betas—they are finished fonts with a smaller scope. They are not an alternative to Full-Latin, but an earlier stage. Pilots exist only until a typeface is expanded to Full-Latin. Whether a Pilot gets expanded depends on the design, demand, and how useful it proves in practice. It’s indicated by a “P” at the end of the font name.

Full-Latin is our standard expansion level. It builds on the Pilot Charset and extends it with broader Latin language coverage (see the language list below). In addition, Full-Latin typically includes a richer set of typographic tools—such as expanded punctuation and symbols, plus OpenType features that support better typography in everyday use.

Vietnamese (Quốc Ngữ) is written in the Latin alphabet, but relies on a distinctive system of diacritics and tone marks. This extension adds the glyphs and mark combinations needed for correct Vietnamese typography—beyond what many Latin sets cover by default.
